The Newsy Edition

There are a couple of Tumblr posts whirling about in my mind, posts about things that God is teaching me, things that I am thinking about, moments of clarity that have occurred this summer. But none of them are fully formed as of yet, so today I decided to just update the general populace about my life.

At the moment I am wasting my days in Cary, North Carolina. To be perfectly candid, I don’t really like North Carolina. Everything looks the same. There is nothing to do. Ho hum. But next week sometime the whole family is moving up to Kentucky and preparing our new house for all of our junk to descend on it. Then the week after that I am heading to southern Illinois for Re-entry retreat. Then about two weeks after that I move to Jackson and start life as a quasi-adult. Whew.

Since we’ve been in the States we haven’t been doing a whole lot. We have successfully gotten over jet lag, we have done a lot of shopping for college and for the new house, and we have read a lot of books. We have also consumed a lot of bacon, but that goes without saying. One highlight of the summer so far, though, was our trip to Houston last week. I had never been to Houston before and liked it quite a bit, aside from the blistering heat. Our chant all week was “it’s not as bad as Dubai” which does wonders for putting things in perspective. We had fun hanging out with my grandmother and seeing some of my other relatives. We also got to hang out with a family that we are connected to in so many ways, it’s ridiculous that we haven’t met before. They have two kids who go to Union and they introduced me to another one of their friends who goes there too so I got to make new friends who will be with me in the Fall. One of the girls will actually be living on the same hall as me this year too! Talking to them made me doubly excited about this next year and confirmed once again that I made the right decision about where to go.

So that is my life at the moment. That barely scratches the surface, because God has been working in my life in ways I did not expect this summer and I can’t wait to tell you all about it.

But that is for another post entirely.
